A fresh controversy has erupted around the Nepal International Film Festival after Tibetan activists and rights groups criticized its inclusion of films they say echo Chinese state narratives on Tibet. According to Phayul, the films were accused of portraying colonial-style boarding schools as development and presenting environmental damage in Tibet as “green” progress, triggering backlash from groups that see the program as normalizing Beijing’s messaging on Tibet.
